Lobos Island: A Journey to a Unique Volcanic Paradise

HIKING

Embark on this unforgettable adventure in Fuerteventura and discover the wonders of Lobos Island, a protected natural paradise of extraordinary beauty, declared a Natural Park in 1994 thanks to its exceptional ecological and scenic value.

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your accommodation at the agreed time. Together, we will travel to Corralejo, the charming fishing town in northern Fuerteventura. From there, a short boat trip of around twenty minutes will take you across the crystal-clear waters to Lobos Island, located just three kilometres from the coast. As you approach, you’ll admire the island’s distinctive silhouette crowned by the majestic La Caldera Volcano.

Upon arrival, a guided walk will lead you along volcanic trails winding through this unique natural sanctuary, allowing you to discover its remarkable biodiversity. Lobos Island is home to numerous endemic species and serves as an important refuge for migratory birds, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.

Your first stop will be La Calera Beach, a stunning stretch of fine golden sand and turquoise waters with great archaeological significance. Here, you can literally walk through history, as evidence of human presence dating back to the 1st century BC has been discovered, including remains of Roman settlements that once exploited the island’s natural resources.

Next, you’ll begin the ascent to La Caldera Volcano, an ancient volcanic cone. Standing 124 metres above sea level, this spectacular natural viewpoint rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views. From the summit, you’ll enjoy a magnificent 360-degree panorama stretching across Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and the vast Atlantic Ocean.

The route continues to the historic Martiño Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the Canary Islands, built in 1865. Still operating today, it served as an essential landmark for sailors navigating these waters. Here, you’ll have time to relax, admire the scenery, enjoy views of neighbouring Lanzarote, and visit the small nearby lagoon.

Your experience concludes in the island’s picturesque fishing village, a charming seaside settlement that has preserved its authentic character. Here, you’ll enjoy free time to stroll through its peaceful streets, sample local cuisine, or simply unwind with a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island.
